Sales deadlines and exhibition projects create
hot periods where new design work emerges by necessity. But outside of these
intense phases of design activity we still make time every day to work on
new print ideas and printing techniques.
Some ideas are slow burning and take months or even years to develop through
to production, others are resolved within a few hours of coming up with
the concept and are in store for the weekend.Above all the SPACECRAFT studio
is adaptable, the design and printing processes aren’t fixed anything can
happen, be changed or be modified.Even the printing machinery and equipment
comes and goes.
The prints are always homebase, so when we design garments for SPACECRAFT
products it tends to be a process of reduction, pairing the product down
to it’s essence and allowing the print to take centre stage.
The development of the print and the design of the product are obviously
the principal creative activities but moderating the product to critical
components and working with the mills to create the base fabrics are also
integral components of our design process.
