Born in Scotland. Stewart Russell's textiles
include a multiplicity ofoverlaid imagery on hand-printed silk screens culminating
in an exquisite and creative art.His art has a unique composition, as does
his own life background, thatspeaks to us emotionally.
Stewart Russell started his career in England as an artist andexperimental
contemporary art museum's curator. In London, Stewart created a new style
of fashion textiles; he worked with famous designers (including Vivienne
Westwood, Alexander McQueen,Hussian Chalayan, Beauty:Beast...) and established
an internationalcareer.
Stewart Russell moved from London to Melbourne in 2000, and set-up [SPACECRAFT
] - a design and art studio where he produces print collections for fashion,
interior and home-wares that is appreciated fashionably. At the studio,
which was once a big and old market place, images are developed over months,
where one textile design is overlaid repeatedly.
Whilst never compromising his aesthetic; collaborating with various of contemporary
artists; embracing sometimes random expressions - the culmination is of
an extraordinary textile formation.
In November 2005, SPACECRAFT opened a shop in central Melbourne city. The
shop proposes a total lifestyle experience through textile art which is
popular with fashionable Melbourne people.
